Is it ok to move the logs in my gas fireplace?
A: We recommend not moving the logs. Placement of the logs is critical to the operation and performance of the fireplace. Misarranged logs can result in operational problems. If you notice the logs have been moved during cleaning, contact a service person or check your installation and operating instructions for proper placement.
Is it okay to burn wood or other materials inside a gas fireplace?
A: No. No other materials may be burned inside a gas fireplace. Our gas fireplaces are designed specifically to burn only LP (Liquid Propane) or NG (Natural Gas). Burning wood has a much higher temperature that can damage the fireplace itself. It also presents a real fire danger to your home and occupants. Even something as simple as burning paper can harm the fireplace’s internal controls and possibly overheat and break the glass.
Can I shut the pilot light off in the summer?
A: Yes, or you can safely leave it burning. The pilot helps keep the moisture from inside the firebox, which is caused from the humidity in the air. It also will extend the life of the thermopile and thermocouple when the pilot is left on.
How often do I need to clean my gas fireplace and vent?
A: Although the frequency of your fireplace servicing and maintenance will depend on use and the type of installation, you should have a qualified service technician perform an appliance check-up at the beginning of each heating season. Whenever a film begins to build up on the glass, it is recommended to use a special cleaner to clean away any residue. Water and vinegar is a suitable alternative. Do not use Windex or any other household glass cleaner. It may discolor your glass.
Will my direct vent gas fireplace function without electricity?
Yes. No electricity is required to operate a direct vent fireplace. Most Gas fireplaces operate via a millivolt valve system. During power failure, your fireplace will be a secure source of heat. The only exception to this is with our optional electronic ignition systems which do not utilize standing pilots and require the presence of 120V
My unit is making a strange odor when i turn it on? Could it be gas?
New units require a min 8-10 hr continuous "curing" time to burn off the paints and oils in the unit that exist from manufacturing. If your fireplace has already gone through the curing period or if you suspect as gas leak, contact your local gas company immediately.
